The name is the promise

Sunday10 - 2

Most workshops on this stretch of the Hume are shut on a Sunday. We are not. If you are halfway between Melbourne and Sydney with a nail in a tyre, that is the difference between a two hour stop and a ruined weekend.

Call the workshop

Why people end up here

Nobody plans a puncture.

A good share of our work walks in unannounced: someone refuelling in Wodonga who hears air hissing out of a front tyre, a ute on the edge of Lake Hume with four staked tyres, a family who need to be back in Melbourne tomorrow and whose space saver is not going to cut it. Every one of those is a real review on our Google listing.

So the shop is set up for it. Stock sits on the racks rather than being ordered in. Odd and large sizes are kept where we can. And if a job needs opening up after hours in an emergency, that has happened here more than once.

Open Sundays

10:00am to 2:00pm

Locals and travellers

Wodonga, Albury and the Hume

Cars, utes, 4WDs, trailers

Including odd sizes up to 21 inch

What we do

Tyres and wheels first, mechanical alongside.

The list painted across the front of the shop, plus the mechanical side of the bench.

New tyres

Passenger, 4WD, light truck and trailer. Stock on the racks rather than ordered in, and odd sizes are not a problem: one customer turned up mid-trip on 21 inch tyres and drove out on four new ones the same day.

Rim and wheel packages

Authorised dealer for Dynamic Wheel Co., Dirty Life and NYC Wheels, so a full range of steel and alloy rims can be matched to your car and fitted with the right rubber in one go.

Wheel alignments

Pulling to one side, steering wheel off centre, or tyres wearing on one edge. Wodonga roads and the Hume are hard on alignment, and this is the fix.

Wheel balancing

The cure for a steering wheel or seat that shudders at highway speed. Done on every new fit and available on its own.

Puncture repairs

Nails, screws and staked tyres. This is the job people arrive with unannounced, and it is the one the shop is set up to turn around fast.

Tyre rotations

Swapping wheels front to back at the right interval so the set wears evenly and you replace four tyres when you should, not two at a time.

Log book servicing

Scheduled servicing kept to the manufacturer's book, so the service history stays intact and the warranty stays valid.

Mechanical repairs

General mechanical work alongside the tyre bay. Faults get photographed and shown to you before anything is done, so you can see what you are paying for.

Lift kits

Suspension lifts fitted and matched to the wheel and tyre package, for utes and 4WDs that need clearance for work or touring.

Accessory fitting

Bolt on gear fitted properly, so it sits square, stays tight, and does not come back rattling.

Not sure which of those you need? Ring the shop and describe what the car is doing. It is usually obvious from the symptoms, and it costs nothing to ask.

Wheels and rims

An authorised dealer, not a catalogue printout.

We are a listed dealer for three wheel brands, so a rim and tyre package can be specced, ordered and fitted in one place, by the people who will also balance and align it afterwards.

  • Dynamic Wheel Co.Full range of steel and alloy rims across their ten brands
  • Dirty Life Race WheelsOff road and touring wheels for utes and 4WDs
  • NYC WheelsStreet and performance fitments

Afterpay is available in the shop if you would rather spread a set of four.

In the workshop

You get shown the fault, not just the bill.

When something is found on your car, it gets photographed or filmed and shown to you before any work is agreed. One customer put it better than we could: it means you get proof of the problem, and we get protection from the argument. Either way you know exactly what you are paying for.

Two post hoist

For alignments, mechanical work and anything that needs the wheels off the ground

Stock on the racks

Common sizes held in store, so most jobs are same visit

Log book stamped

Servicing kept to the manufacturer's schedule

A quick Google search showed a few tyre repair places nearby, but being a Sunday during the Christmas to New Year period, most had already closed. Just when I was starting to feel anxious, I discovered that Sunday Tyres and Mechanical was still open, and that turned out to be an incredible stroke of luck. Despite how busy they were, the team welcomed us with such genuine kindness and warmth. They attended to my tyre immediately, did a fantastic puncture repair, and even made my little parrot feel completely at home.

I had 4 staked tyres on the Sunday of Australia Day weekend on the edge of Lake Hume. Not only did they help organise a tow truck to a nightmare location, they also opened their work shop on that Long weekend after hours and saved mine. Beautiful people, excellent service and management. No wonder you guys have such an amazing reputation. Service next to none

Excellent service received recently. Travelling to the AGP and discovered a badly worn tyre. Car had odd size 21" tyres. They had tyres available and also repaired a trailer tyre with a nail causing a leak. 4 x new tyres and tyre repaired at very good price and fitted us in quickly so we could continue our trip, many thanks

Last night we got a flat tyre at a bad time, with my partner needing to drive back to Melbourne today and the space saver wasn't going to work. The team at Sunday Tyres couldn't have been more helpful. Great service, a nice, quick job, and friendly smiles all round. I couldn't recommend them any higher!

Top blokes always go above and beyond, very experienced and treat you like a person not a number. I also like the fact that they video the problems they find to show the client, it gives them protection from false information and also gives the client proof of problems.

Who you are dealing with

A small crew who answer their own phone.

Sunday Tyres is a genuinely small operation on Chapple Street, run by the people who do the work. That is why reviews keep using the same words: treated like a person rather than a number, went out of their way, fitted us in.

It also means you can just ring up and describe the noise your car is making, and the person who answers is the person who will look at it.

Chapple Street runs through Wodonga's trade and industrial belt, a couple of minutes off the highway. Plenty of room out the front to pull a car or a trailer in.
